Established in 2012, the Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI) is a division of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). It is recognized as a leading institution in Greece, specializing in Sustainable and Clean Energy, Environmental Technologies, Chemical and Biochemical Processes, and Advanced Functional Materials. Role in SOLINDARITY

CERTH/CPERI serves as the coordinating entity of SOLINDARITY, holding responsibility for both overall project and technical management, leading the pertinent Work Package (WP 1-Project Management). CERTH/CPERI also leads WP3, concerning the design and development of SOLINDARITY solutions. Additionally, CERTH/CPERI is responsible for deriving and evaluating the key requirements and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of the processes. Moreover, it spearheads the development of the processes simulation models and oversees the preparation of the pilot’s operation at demo sites, with a specific focus on the pulp & paper sector pilot. Finally, CERTH/CPERI will develop an on-line, user friendly, sizing calculator tool to help plant operators select and dimension the optimal SOLINDARITY solutions‘configuration.

  • Develop online optimization algorithms based on a multi-agent framework, enabling monitoring and optimal responses to external factors, thus facilitating cost-effective operation of SOLINDARITY solutions.
  • Conduct Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Life Cycle Costing (LCC) analyses of the solution to evaluate the replication and scalability potential of SOLINDARITY.

Università degli Studi di Genova (UNIGE)

The University of Genoa (UNIGE), founded in 1933 with roots dating back to the XV century, is an education and research public institution provided with scientific, educational, organizational and financial autonomy and it is involved in the building of a European area for research and advanced professional training.

The Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (DIME) of the University of Genoa includes the Thermochemical Power Group (TPG), founded in 1998. Its mission is to carry out theoretical and experimental research in the field of advanced energy systems: development and testing of advanced technologies for sustainable energy systems, thermoeconomic analysis, energy harvesting, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies, CO2 cycles, etc.

Since 2004, TPG-DIME has hosted the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre on Fuel Cell Systems (UTC) and, since 2017, the Fincantieri joint laboratory (HI-SEA). The TPG has twenty-year experience in participating and coordinating National and International Projects (including those funded by FP5, FP6, FP7 and H2020 Framework Programmes).

Role in SOLINDARITY


UNIGE leads the mapping of the demo sites and is the research partner for the ARTIGO pilot. Its primary responsibilities include the development of the project’s Digital Twinning and the planning of process and energy management through thermoeconomics. Additionally, UNIGE assesses the impact of the SOLINDARITY system on energy networks under different scenarios.

Rina Consulting S.p.A. integrates all the engineering consulting companies of the Rina Group becoming the largest fully independent Italian firm providing consulting & engineering services to Clients belonging both to the public and the private sector. The company operates in the markets of Energy, Transport and Infrastructures, Industry, Oil & Gas, Power, Renewables, Space & Defence, Industry sectors and investor support. With a team of engineers, consultants, designers, planners and specialists, Rina Consulting supports public and private Clients from concept to decommissioning, through consultancy, design, management, operation and maintenance. The company provides a wide range of services covering the whole project life cycle from feasibility and specialized technical studies to conceptual and detailed design, prototyping and testing, project management, site engineering as well as operation and maintenance management. RINA-C has a broad experience in European projects, both as coordinator and as partner in the development of new technologies.

  • Leader of WP7, with the main activities focused at developing a solid business case for SOLINDARITY, laying the groundwork for future marketing endeavours, conducting market analysis to establish different business models depending on typical system configurations.
  • Activities focused at establishing standardized protocols, ensuring safety measures, and providing guidelines for the implementation of SEHUS in industrial settings.

Centro Tecnológico Lurederra (LUR)

LUREDERRA (LUR) is a non-profit, private Technological Centre created in June 1999 by the association of several public authorities, financial organizations, RTD organizations and companies in diverse productive fields, totalling more than 20 independent entities.

LUREDERRA performs activities of RTD on behalf of the industries and other economical agents within its sphere of influence, followed by implementation of the innovations developed at their production sites. The organization is a Spanish CIT (Centre of Innovation and Technology) with the number 98. Main RTD fields where LUREDERRA is active are: Nanotechnology, Advanced materials and Advanced environment.

LUREDERRA also participates in several projects belonging to Horizon 2020 such as SUPER-PV (H2020-LCE-2017): Cost reduction and enhanced performance of PV systems, MAREWIND (H2020-NMBP-ST-IND-2020): Materials solutions for cost Reduction and extended service life on WIND off-shore facilities, or SUNRISE (H2020-LCCI-2020-EASME): Multisensor sorting tools in a circular economy approach for the efficient recycling of PVB interlayer material in high-quality products from laminated glass construction and demolition wastes.

Role in SOLINDARITY

LUREDERRA’s main activity is the application of nanotechnology-based coatings that improve the efficiency of solar panels, increasing their energy gain while reducing the need for cleaning processes. To do this, it will work with anti-reflective solutions that have hydrophobic or hydrophilic properties that will be selected depending on the climate.

German Aero Space Center (DLR)

The German Aero Space Center (DLR) is the Federal Republic of Germany’s research centre for aeronautics, space, energy, transport, digitalisation and security in the fields of applied and basic research. DLR employs approximately 10000 people at over 30 locations in Germany and offices abroad and is headquartered in Cologne. In its research and development work, DLR cooperates with other research institutions and industry worldwide.

The Institute of Low-Carbon Industrial Processes expands DLR’s research portfolio by focusing on CO2 reduction in industrial processes. The focus is on the specific requirements and research needs for decarbonization in many industrial sectors. At the same time, the institute’s research topics complement DLR developments on sustainable power generation and storage.

Role in SOLINDARITY


The DLR is one of the three research partners and is responsible for the development of the heat pump technology and system engineering as well as the up-scaling of the heat pump technology. The DLR is also responsible for the German demonstration site.

BOGE KOMPRESSOREN Otto Boge GmbH & Co. KG (BOGE)

BOGE KOMPRESSOREN is one of the leading German manufacturers of industrial air compressors and compressed air systems. Within the SOLINDARITY project, BOGE KOMPRESSOREN will design and manufacture the turbo groups that drive the high temperature heat pumps. Moreover, BOGE will provide their direct drives and frequency converters.

Artigo (ART)

Artigo S.p.a. is part of MONDO group, a leading worldwide manufacturer and supplier in the flooring sector and supplied track and field surfaces for the last thirteen Olympic Games.

ART produces and commercializes high-performance flooring products that are ideal for application in schools, hospitals, public spaces, and other types of locations.

Role in SOLINDARITY

ART will host one of the three demo sites in which the high temperature heat pump will be tested to heat up the diathermic oil used in the vulcanization process, thanks to the energy produced by a solar thermal plant and the energy recovered from the flue gases of the existing boilers.

Solar Heat Europe (SHE)

Solar Heat Europe is the voice of the solar heating and cooling sector in Brussels, interacting with EU policy makers and influencers alongside many other sectors active on the heat agenda.
Established in 1992, our network includes suppliers to our sector, manufacturers or solar thermal collectors, project developers, research institutes, project developers, users of the solar thermal technology and media from over 15 countries across Europe, ranging from Cyprus to Finland, showcasing our diversity.

Role in SOLINDARITY


Solar Heat Europe’s role in SOLINDARITY primarily involves leading the Communication and Dissemination efforts. This includes developing a cohesive strategy to support and amplify the project’s objectives and implementation. SHE also coordinates the creation and distribution of promotional materials, manages stakeholder engagement, and measures the impact of communication activities. The association also facilitates the sharing of results and insights across various platforms, ensuring that the project reaches and influences a broad audience, including policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the general public.

National Agricultural Research Center (NARC)

NARC is a governmental research center in agricultural and environmental research aims to achieve sustainable development. The center aims to invest the results of agricultural and environmental research whether locally derived or adopted from other sources to increase plant & animal production, enhancing its efficiency towards optimal and sustainable use of natural resources, serving the agricultural development goals to maintain the ecological balance. Also, the research team works with NARC partners to strengthen the center’s role as a national umbrella for agricultural and environmental research, to achieve optimal use of natural resources, and combine climate resilience building with other environmental sustainability goals such as ecological and biodiversity restoration and conservation. Besides, the NARC research collaboration is working to improve participants’ influence, amplify marginalized groups’ voices, and find practical solutions that will enhance the importance and impact of research on local, regional, and global levels.

Role in SOLINDARITY

NARC provides a pilot for replication study case in Jordan. It provides a factory from representative food industry for simulations and feasibility studies that take place in the replicator. This factory (Muthieb Haddad and Sons Company) Specializing in the distribution of salty snacks, personal care, home care and fabric care products.

Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN)

The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) is a governmental body responsible for managing renewable energy in Morocco. Masen leads development programs of integrated projects aimed at creating an additional 3,000 MW of clean electricity generation capacity by 2020 and a further 6,000 MW by 2030.The goal is to secure 52% of the country’s energy mix from renewable sources by 2030.

As a central player committed to making optimal use of renewable resources, Masen transforms natural power into power for progress. The integrated model Masen has devised aims to establish self-sustaining and financially viable ecosystems.

In addition to generating electricity through major projects and raising the funds required to do so, Masen seeks to act as a catalyst for the development of a competitive economic network that employs existing skills efficiently and helps create new ones. At the same time, the development of applied research and the promotion of technological innovation are encouraged.

Role in SOLINDARITY

Masen’s role involves assessing the scalability of the project’s developed concept through the creation of multiple case studies. The feasibility study aims to promote international cooperation with countries in the MENA region, thereby ensuring an expanded potential for replication.

ASCORI’s main fields of activity are the planning, documentation and commissioning of energy technology systems as well as the programming of control systems and visualisations to implement automation technology requirements. In addition, tests, measurements and analyses are carried out in the company’s own laboratory or on customer systems on site. In the field of automation technology, ASCORI develops and programs control systems, controllers, visualisations and process control technology. The company supports customers in the planning, documentation and commissioning of conveyor and process technology systems.

Customers include companies in the automotive, aviation and aerospace industries as well as foundries, food manufacturers and chemical companies.

ASCORI carries out grid and fault analyses, primary and secondary electrical tests in transformer stations, power plants, grid connection systems and HV switchgear, measurements of earthing and lightning protection systems as well as transformer and insulation tests. Planning, documentation and commissioning of all types of energy systems – high, medium and low-voltage switchgear, electrical infrastructure systems or cable, earthing and lightning protection systems are also part of our range of services. Grid and short-circuit, load flow and protection parameter calculations or selectivity analyses are just as much a part of our services as the correct dimensioning of electrical equipment and building installations.

The Lorenz Bahlsen Snack-World GmbH & Co KG Germany (LOR)

Lorenz is a fourth generation independent family owned business and one of the leading snack manufacturers in Europe. Their mission is to combine joy of life & responsibility. Founded in 1889, the company is based in Neu-Isenburg, Germany and  employs over 3.000 employees worldwide. With 130 years experience as a brand manufacturer, Lorenz today exports its potato chips, salt sticks, flips, crackers and nuts to over 100 countries around the world. Their well-known brands include Crunchips, Saltletts, ErdnußLocken, NicNac’s, Naturals and many more. At the plant in Kreba-Neudorf Lorenz is producing peanuts, noble nuts and nut fruit mixtures.

Role in SOLINDARITY

Lorenz operates the food & beverage demo-site for the high-temperature heat pump, located in Kreba-Neudorf, Germany and will be responsible for the activities associated with the integration of components in the respected pilot.

TVP Solar SA (TVPS)

TVP Solar S.A. is a solar thermal technology provider that deploys large-scale solar thermal systems for district heating networks, and industrial applications.

Established in Geneva, Switzerland, the company has developed, manufactures and markets innovative High Vacuum Flat Panels (HVFPs) that are SolarKeyMark certified to deliver heat at temperatures up to 200C. Thanks to the technology’s superiority TVPS’ solar systems can produce heat all year round, even at low-to-medium solar irradiance locations/ weather conditions. Our systems have been installed across 12 countries in Europe, Middle East and Americas.

Role in SOLINDARITY

TVPS will demonstrate its next generation solar thermal panel based on the HVFP technology in all three demo sites of the project. To this end, the company will: (i) Assess the feasibility and engineer the solar thermal system for each demo site; (ii) Ensure optimal integration of the solar thermal systems into the SOLINDARITY’s overall solution; (iii) Train local partners/ operators and supervise installation and commissioning; (iv) Fine-tune the operation of the solar thermal systems; and, (v) Share operational data for performance assessment.
